I don't agree with this. It's a bit of the chicken and the egg, but just about every IANTD instructor I know will say something like "Well, all you need to do is x dives for card a and y dives for card b, so lets do however many dives the greater of x and y are, and then you'll be set" It's all about minimums to get you certified. Hell, I didn't deserve any of the IANTD cards I got (at the time). Wheras, the last GUE instructor I contacted about training said something along the lines of "We'll do the GUE training, which means ultra-high harassment, and lots of dives. I may or may not *personally* think this is the way to do it, but that's how it's going to be done" Couldn't agree more. From what I hear Tom Mount is a superb instructor, but there WAY too much room for slackers in the IANTD standards. I know lots of people that are getting certified by IANTD over weekends. One weekend per card, Deep Air, Adv Nitrox, Int Trimix, Mix, Rebreather. I've seen every one of those done over one or two weekends. So, it's not to say you can't be a good IANTD instructor, but there's just not enough control, and the standards are politically motivated instead of based on sound reasoning and tried techniques. Hence GUE. I think that certifications should be totally abolished, and an apprenticeship program instigated. Who gives a crap about a c-card? it's the training that's needed. Making a living at diving seems pretty ludicrous, anyway. Why ruin a good hobby? :-P At 06:02 AM 10/14/1999 +0300, you wrote: > > What has not changed and in fact has gotten worse is that the training > > agencies ( other than GUE obviously) have really regressed into complete > > nonsense, and the attitude they project is what is creating the problems > > out there. > >What i pesonally think on this, is that, like Joel says, instructors >make the agencies. >What matters if I am a IANTD, TDI, ANDI, NASA, instructor?
