Hi ... I remember diving in northern Saskatchewan a few years back ... I climbed out of the water ... pulled off my mask ... All of a sudden everyone else was rolling around laughing hysterically ... Seems the Deet Mosquito repellent had partially dissolved my mask skirt ... And I was doing a pretty good imitation of a whacky racoon ... I think that was a neoprene mask skirt though ... not sure ... All the Best ... Mask skirts that tear... Thanks for the suggestions as to why my mask skirts are tearing. I wash and clean my mask after every day of diving and store them in a box. They don't get much sun exposure. I didn't want to mention this before, not wanting to taint my question. I know that my skin acidity is a bit different from most. Certain mixes of neoprene, latex, and silicone tend to break down and become mushy/sticky after repeated contact with my skin... (despite frequent washing to remove any oils) particularly when they're in contact with my face. I'm of Icelandic/Danish descent and my skin is very dry, but I think the oils in my face are attacking the silicone. Does this sound familiar to anybody on the list?
