We've got people over here starting out techdiving by actively seeking out DIR, DESPITE the instructors and more experienced tech divers around them. >Ranting will, however, make those exemplars refuse to use any DIR >methods out of defensiveness and spite. Those stroke 'exemplars' aren't going to give up their strokism just because we ask nicely. Some of us have tried that. They're fucked in thought and deed. Some are too far gone. They've got endless rationales for their strokism. They've got agency instructor manuals that show them how to teach strokism. There's a world-wide network of stroke peers. One agency even puts on a travelling stroke-circus that keynotes the world's biggest strokes and 'dopes-on-a-rope' and leaves a trail of stroke slime that circles the globe. >Ranting is also the reason there are so many >lurkers and so few regular posters to the list; it's >just not worth the abuse. Even without any of that vigorous debate tom which you seem to object, there'd be far more lurkers than posters - human nature. There'd also be a whole lot more dangerous nonsense and misinformation being spread. Isn't it good to know there's at least one forum in the world where the blowhards, the liars, the incompetents, the 300lb 'ex navy seals' the bullshit artists and their malevolent, dangerous crap gets short shrift. >The correct approach would be for DIR divers to write a book and promote >that; a couple of unscripted amateur videos aren't enough. You offering to underwrite it? > But "trey" >would have to give up his favorite hobby then... You'll notice that anyone who asks a question, instead of stating an opinion, gets a straight answer. These lists also generate a great volume of private traffic. They enable divers to sort out who knows their stuff and who's full of shit, and ask questions accordingly, privately. You'd be surprised at how much information "trey" and the other WKPP and DIR guys put out to private enquirers. You "Mommy, put sugar on it for me" types should stop whining and start asking questions about diving. rgds billyw -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
