Ted, "chicken" or "egg"? You took my part of the class on the Halcyon, we discussed this. I do not think it is a good idea to let these guys of the hook on the whole picture here. The final mechanism of the death is the end result of eveything that went before, and the lack of a second chance is again the final step. I will tell you in no uncertain terms that I think these people up there are the most incompetent boobs in diving. They are dumb, ignorant, misinformed, self-designated macho types whom I would not allow to dive anywhere near one of my operations. I have never ever seen worse divers, or bigger idiots, harder heads, or a worse track record. They are the ones who are getting people killed, they are the ones who are influencing the otherwise smart people into doing dumb things, they are the ones who are ruining diving for all of us, especially for guys like you who are in the business and trying to do the right thing. Stop coddling the idiots. The entire operation up there is bottom of the barrel, and that is not only my opinion, that is a fact that anyone and everyone from the the rankest neophyte to "Nightline" can see with no problem. These guys need a swift kick in the ass. I would like to see one of these big timers get on here and tell me the value of anything they are doing, and have it make sense - that is IMPOSSIBLE.
