Breathe deep, can't we all just get along...... My response was riddled
with sarcasm based on the ridiculousness of the thread. I also have adopted
many of the DIR concepts but I also don't consider my rig DIR. Me make
video's? would take too much time. I'd rather be diving than shooting
videos....

Ok, haven't we had enough of this already?? Art DIR is a
set philosophy by the
WKPP divers for the diving and goals that they carry out.
Why do people feel
like they need a validation from this group. Why do you
feel your configuration
needs to be called DIR? Jim said it the best, DIR belongs
to the WKPP, if you
want to start the North East Lobster Diving Configuration
for Optimal Diving,
you could call it NELDCOD!! and create videos, and argue
with people who would
say well is it NELDCOD to put the lobster gauge on the bag,
or should it be on a
lanyard? This discussion is getting ridiculous. Unless you
are diving the
WHOLE SYSTEM, no matter what your goal of the dive is, you
will not be DIR in
the eyes of a DIR diver.

oh, and Art, I am also a NE wreck diver, I rig my gear as
close to Hogarthain as
I can, but in no way do I call it DIR, because it is not the
WHOLE SYSTEM.

OK, stirring the pot some more. If you are hunting for NE
lobsters (you know,
the smart ones with claws....), what is the proper DIR
setup? As I think Janet
said last week, wearing anything on the wrist is a liability
and DEFINITELY not
optimal. Considering DIR by definition if I'm not mistaken
is minimal and
optimal, what do you do with the compass and bottom timer on
your wrist?
Hum.... Could the answer be a console..... Oh my God, a
little bit of logic to
		the discussion.....

Possibly, but only from your myopic
perspective.

Guy, one more time, you can't take DIR,
change it,
		                and call it DIR.

You can't take an entire system, change a
piece of
it, and then rely on the continuing
integrity of the system.

And as far as 'people trying new ideas and
living
with the adverse comments from the
status-quo' goes, why don;t
you take a look at the half baked people who
get on this list
with their ill-conceived ideas to 'improve'
a system they
		                clearly don't understand.

Not one of them can match the knowledge,
experience, ability,
safety and achievements of the people who
invented DIR. People
who, dive some of the most demanding
environments in the world,
		                and who,
tellingly, dive DIR just the way it is, with
none
		                of these so-called 'improvements'.

		                Ever stopped to wonder why?

If that doesn't tell you something, nothing
will.
