Billy-

This is the point I have tried to make over and over and apparently it's
very hard for people to understand this.

1. Nobody really cares how you config your gear.
2. DIR is system. You can't take bits and pieces of DIR and call yourself
a DIR diver.

Thats all. Personally I like to dive solo, thus I am not a DIR diver. As
a solo diver I take 2 devices with me. I do promote DIR and would like to
have a DIR partner, but they are hard to find and I find that diving solo
is much less stressful when not having to worry about a "mystery buddy".

I also firmly believe that a DIR buddy team has a much better chance of
surviving an extreme dive than a solo diver. The Navy SEALs understand
this, as the core of the teams are the swim buddies. Both come back or
neither come back is what's expected of them (to take it to an another
extreme).

So why do I do it? The fact is that solo deco diving is very dangerous
and moves me that much closer to death, which increases the adrenlin rush
and improves the dive experience. There is nothing more spine-tingling,
sinus clearing and anus clenching than the realization that you have just
fucked up and there is absolutely nobody there to help you. Talk about
motivation to solve the problem. Talk about a rush.

Now DIR also says to "do it right or don't do it at all", so I am not
DIR. While my gear is DIR rigged, I'm still not doing it right.

The real argument here is "I want to be a same-ocean buddy diver and
still call myself DIR" well, you can't and as you have seen from this
thread, you won't get away with it...

   Jim
