So, for the record - since you gave us your VOmax, what's your BMI? > > Good night! > > pH Haseltine, As it happens, I have been working too many hours over the last 6 months, and was getting in no gym workouts... as of a month ago, I was about 25 pounds overweight. I was still getting in 40 miles per day on my bike, but this alone does not reduce body fat like gym workouts--most bodybuilders do not even do any significant cardio for getting lean. Its just diet and gym workouts for them. I've lost 5 pounds in the last two weeks. Since I am dispensing advice on fitness, the fact that I need to lose some body fat myself is an advantage---the others on the list can see that the diet and training tips from Terry have worked on me--and that I understand the "challenge" of weight loss. But I would add that I am far from similar to the "typical" overweight diver....My muscle mass is equal to or greater than many powerlifters, football players or Body builders, and my aerobic capacity, even with 25 pounds of excess fat is more than enough to destroy a "pencil necked geek" like you on a bike or in the water, or in the ring at Sheppard's Gym. How many "dugone" type divers do you know that can keep swimming pace with high powered scooters for 40 minute deep dives. Ideal weight for me is 185 pounds. Right now I weigh 205. By December I'll be in 180-185 range, which I have been in for the vast majority of the last 25 years ( in college I was heavier--206 with a 7 percent bodyfat level...but I allowed the cycling to catabolize some of this muscle, as it was a penalty in hill climbing in cycling road races). Incidentally, what kind of a Doctor are you? It would appear you have the same sadly lacking understanding of nutrition common to the majority of MD's...no doubt you can blame the pathetic nutrition course commonly taught in most medical schools, but an "enlightened" mind would have done its own research far more efficiently than you have managed.
