Kevin, All of these guys are whining that it costs too much have not been looking, they are just lazy. For an average day diving (with 18/40 mix, 50/50 deco) my total gas costs are about $25. I think my life is worth that (although I am sure there is some debate on that one<G>) They do like that buzz on the "really deep dive" Steve ------------------------------ Date: 9/21/98 5:02 PM To: Hogan, Steve From: Kevin Rottner >And, p.s., it ain't going to filter down because of a simple concept called >economics. You may not understand such a bizarre concept but it is the real world. I am amazed at the number of local Southern California divers that dive air between 50' and 130', when inexpensive nitrox fills are readily available, " but cost too much ". I am amazed at the number of local Southern California divers that come up blue and shivering, when inexpensive good quality drysuits are readily available, " but cost too much". I am amazed at the number of local Southern California divers that push the tables, when inexpensive but very advanced dive computers are readily available, " but cost too much". I am amazed at the number of local Southern California divers that dive old crappy worn out gear ( mask, fins, regs, ets. ), when inexpensive gear is readily available, " but costs too much". Nitrox is too expensive ?? Think about the cost of an evac. and chamber series. Think about the cost of a corpse repatriation and funeral. This is what we should "filter down" to the masses. The difference between the cost of making three gas dives off a dive boat or three air dives of a boat is insignificant when you calculate the cost of all our training and gear, and the price of the boat ticket into those three dives, or average the total cost of our training and gear over our dive careers. But the inherient increased safety factor of using the best mix for the dive is tremendous. " it costs too much " is just an excuse.
