Absolutely Al. My issue is that SO FAR the list has primarily focused
on how to AVOID putting any blame on the student.

"It was their instructors fault"
"It was their gear's fault"

Joe student is hearing nothing telling him that he has a role to
play in saving his own ass. Nothing telling him not to rush blindly
ahead so he'll have his big-damn-deep-trimix-wreck card by
his 30th dive. Instead we have an instructor lynch-mob running around
proclaiming they will make the world safe for the most naive and
unthinking of students.

> and if so then can we discuss some ratios of blame. say 60 /40
instructor/student

100/100 instructor/student.

Both parties have many chances to prevent a student from being where they
should not.

Al, the reason I focus on the *student* is this... 99% of the dives
a diver does are WITHOUT an instructor.

That reduces the blame ratio to

0/100

Now which part is the most important part to focus on?

........ blah blah blah.... :-)

(question #1) Come Al, give me an example. You keep dodging the question.

> Is there anything you'll admit to not knowing??

Yes, why you are so hard-headed? :-) (too easy, sorry)

(question #2) So is it fair to say we both agree both parties have
a responsibility in this situtation?

Assuming you answer yes to #2 (and that you dodge #1 again.. :-) )
then why can't we work on both ends of the solution? why is everyone
so bloody afraid of telling new divers that their ass is in their
own hands and they'd better take an interest in looking after it?

So how were the dives?

Mike
