You think because I am suggesting that the reality of dive > training is that students are not prepared for what they are doing Well you still dodged all my questions Al, but this statement is a gem. :-) Maybe we do agree after all :-) "Students are not prepared for what they are doing". And instead of trying to get students to prepare themselves the list sits around and plays lynch mob on the instructors. To little or no benefit as well. Its not saving anyone, instead the message getting out to the newbies on this list is "don't prepare, we don't expect you to, just do a trust me dive with any instructor, we'll make the world safe for you so you don't have to put in the time to gain your experience properly." > the instructor needs to be capable of dealing with that, that I am advocating > unpreparedness on the part of the student? I don't see you pushing for more responsibility on the part of the students Al. I see you protesting about adding "more blame" when it is suggested that _maybe_ the student played a role in putting themselves where they should not have been. A new driver in rush hour on ice on I-95 will be hurt. A beginning climber climbing Mt Everest will get hurt. A beginning skier doing a black diamond will get hurt. These are obvious to us. But when some inexpeienced diver gets hurt in a challenging environment the list places 100% of the blame on the sap instructor who happened to be along. > I dont advocate trust me dives either, but I am willing to recognize that they > do occur and that they are not all the fault of the student. Bullshit Al. That student is fully responsible for deciding to do on a trust me dive. I've not heard yet of any report of student injury where the instructor took out a gun and forced the student to dive. Until that time the student is 100% responsible for going somewhere they should not be. Mike -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
