But in the end all it would do (if I had those repsonsibilities) would be to temper my risk tolerance. I would still be responsible for myself. I would still not relinquish the destiny of my life to an instructor asking me to do things I thought were unsafe (or didn't even stop to consider if they were safe or not), nor would I trade my judgement for that of a boat captain (nothing personal captains, its just its my hide we're talking about, so I'll make the decisions to protect it...) or DM who thought I should do more than I thought I should. Nope in the end I still do end up being responsible for me. I do not expect the boat captain to save me from my own stupidity. Heck yes it might be nice, but I have no right to EXPECT that. Life is harsh, diving is not guaranteed to be safe. You have to be sure you can take care of you. If you can't accept that responsibility stay on dry land and play golf. I know it sucks when you can't blame everyone else when you screw up, but that's life. Sorry Dan you were (ab)using this issue to preach at the idea of responsibility in general. My response is intended to address that only. Best of luck in the recovery, and I do mean that. Mike -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
