Last month, we had a high end sidescan sonar dragged all over the reef area where Divers Supply did their best to prevent us from body recoveries, in the January tripple death tragedy. Extensive analysis showed several extremely likely spots to dive, where metal and shapes and groupings, looked promising. We will go out this Saturday morning, planning as many as 6 dives in 235 to 260 feet of water, between several teams. The families of Mike Elkins and John Claypool have suffered terribly in the initial accident, and their suffering continues, as the bodies still need to be recovered. For those of you who think you are responsible only for yourself, you might think again, as insurance for your wife and kids will NOT be forthcoming in the first year, without a body. This could destroy what remained of the lives of most families. Imagine your wife and kids losing their home, being virtually kicked out on the street. Imagine a group like Divers Supply being largely responsible for this travesty, by their obsfucation and misdirection---the tactics they employed after direct lies and threats proved insufficient to prevent a recovery attempt. There is no way we can allow them to kill students in the future, with gear configurations and proceedure , such as were implemented by Andre Smith/Divers Supply/IANTD . We need the body recovery to succeed this weekend for this goal as well as our responsibility to help the families. This week, we will continue our commitment to the families, but we need some help. We need a few safety divers ( DIR compliant ) and potentially even a buddy team or two as a search group. We will have Gavin scooters availble for use by those that enter search teams. We will be using Frank's Dive shop--his boat, as the main dive platform. We also could use a "chase" boat, to cover the teams involved in deco, while the main boat prepares another group for a drop. Any one who cares about what happened to these families, if you can help out this weekend, please contact me by e-mail.
