The yoke seal O-ring is well known to be so stressed and critical that most SCUBA manufacturers provide specially compounded O-rings - usually a harder, more extrusion resistant compound like polyurethane - just for this application, and it's pretty well accepted that using a generic nitrile O-ring on the valve is asking for trouble. And then viton is known to be less durable than nitrile, and a poor choice for high wear or high extrusion applications. I'm not arguing for yokes here - given my druthers, I'd have DIN, but if one is using them (and a lot of us are), using the right O-rings can greatly decrease the risks of failure. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
