As, perhaps, another issue, Dave Christie, of Rendezvous Dive Adventures, in Barkley Sound, B.C. solved this one for me back before I began de-stroking. He saw me doing exactly that, and said "O-rings too small". He then dug out his O-ring kit, and we matched the size I had on my reg, and then selected the next size thicker. He claimed that what was happening was that gas was getting trapped behind the O ring in the channel that it was supposed to fill, and putting pressure on the back of the threads, requiring at least a pair of channel locks to get it off. Haven't had the problem since, until I had the reg re-built at an Underwater Sports shop here in Seattle, and of course, they put an O ring in that was too small, and I had to replace it to get the reg off the tanks. Dave is one of the Greybeards of dive boats, and one of the three finest Captains I've dove with.
