Joel, Completely agree with you... Standards are just the start, and thats why we should all go back to the start and hopefully the cascade effect will deal with the rest. Sure, the standards are there... but they are lacking in the common sense that you mention. Don't beleive me? Try this test.. Find two techie instructors, teaching the same level class. Now, go out to each of their check out dives, and see if you can find the standards that are being followed. So many different procedures and protocols become apparent from each different instructor.. Then, in the end, these divers from different classes end up on the same boat together and buddy up.. You now have the definition of a cluster f*ck. Let's forget about those divers who actually know what a team is and execute their dives as a team. We need to concentrate on the influx of freshly lamenated card holding newbies who find themselves on a boat without their instructor to hold their hand. Again, one set of standards, procedures, protocols, etc. that are safe and sensible need to be created and enforced by all those in charge. We are all in charge, so we must all act together to stop the insanity, no matter what.
