Dive only with the rich guys that own every possible combo of gear so they can be "optimal" no matter what the conditions are? > <<what happens when you want to do that profile that require > 15 minutes more air than you will get out of AL80's? >> > > You only get fifteen minutes out of an al80?? I must have read that wrong. Yes Al, AMAZINGLY enough you did manage to read it wrong. Amazing how you always manage to (try to) do that to your advantage. "15 minutes more" that means 15 minutes BEYOND the time you normally get from AL80's. so if you would have gotten 25 minutes from the AL80's, then for this dive that says you are wanting to get 40 minutes. where 40 is 15 "more" than 25. Nice try though. > << At first you claimed it was for deco safety, now there are repeated > references to backup buoyancy for the heavier tanks.>> > > The drysuit does both Mike, BOTH, if something can do two functions I can > carry one less thing. Yes, but you are assuming there is a need for a drysuit. If there is no need, then a 2nd bladder would be simpler. Or certainly no more complex. > So why dont you listen to him, Mike?? Hmmmmmmmmm?? Because I forgot to attend the "lemming" class, and when I see an inconsistancy, I point it out. Because as good as these guys are, they have also shown themselves to be prone to hyperbole from time to time. > << not all dives will be done under "optimum" conditions.>> > > Again Mike you have missed the boat. You never have to dive. Ever. Just Interesting proposition Al, from on hgh you decree that if you cannot dive "optimally" you should not dive at all... > dive. You have same deal Mike, you can dive when you want to and only then. > If your gear is not right, THEN CHANGE YOUR GEAR. If it is not right, whatever > "it" might be , then DONT DIVE. Sorry Al, I know you'd like to get away with being a hypocrite but remember I don't the holier-than-thou stuff doesn't wash when you try to have it both ways at the same time. Now this is petty I grant you, but you're the one spouting (or regurgitating) this fire and brimstone about optimal-only diving, not me... In this case I am curious to examine some comments you made in another thread.... on 7/16 you wrote to Tom Mount in Re: Fw: cylinders-BC's etc "I (Al) went in, diving my hp steel 100's in as near a hogarthian fashion as I could.." ^^^^ Al, this sounds awfully like a less than "optimal" configuration. What does "near" mean? I thought you said if you can't do it right, you stay dry and play golf? As a lemming I learned long long ago that HP steel tanks are only for strokes. I can dig out quotes from George I am sure. I'm being sarcastic there, but hey if you want to tow-the-line and quote rule #1 and play Mr. Perfect, ya gotta answer to your own music. Being rigidly judgemental really sucks when you forget to make sure you don't fall under your own criticism. Now personally I think they are possibly just less than optimal. But under the logic you have been using to damn the OMS wings I'd say these tanks have to go. Al, you claimed you wanted to explore the issues not blast anyone, you wanted to learn about the OMS as if you had not drawn any conclusions already. I'd say it seems you had your conclusions long before this thread started and simply are trying to find ways to justify them. Otherwise you might have been willing to allow that yes there are conditions though less than optimal where a 2nd bladder could be useful in the event there is no need for a drysuit.
