>I was wondering if anyone has any comments about the Mares Voltrex >regulator. I have two. One seems to like to free flow a lot more than the >other. (It is my secondary). > Just about any reg, if it's not detuned, will freeflow when you first hit the water, especially if they are being held one of those octopus holders that lets them flop around or holds them with the mouthpiece up. This is probably just the price you are paying for having a high performance reg that doesn't have an external adjuster. The finer you tune any reg, and the easier it breathes, the easier it will freeflow. Inn this case, you've got no way to detune it. So the qualities that make the Voltrex a great breathing primary make it a lousy secondary. Normal practice is to detune the secondary to make it less finicky, but here you run into another problem - as best I can recall, the Voltrex doesn't have a breathing effort adjustment inside either, just lever height - you tune it by fiddling with the intermed. press. But your primary may not be happy with that. I guess the moral is you can't make a sow's ear out of a silk purse. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
