This is a matter of opinion, but I and most deep divers here in the Northeast
carry O2 stage bottles for deco air dives.  This is because, under local
conditions, returning to the anchor line is far from assured.  Another reason
I do it is to stay in training for gas dives.  Since I am comfortable with
the weight, drag, and configuration of stage bottles on air dives, it isn't a
big change for me to do a gas dive.
