All of the reg failures that have seen have been second stage freezing. On
examination post dive, the second stage is full of ice and the intermediate
pressure is at the set psi. If the psi had gone up this would suggest 1st
stage failure. I haven't seen one of these.

I like the conshelf because it works. It may be helped out because of the
metal 2nd stage that doesn't insulate the reg. I now that's thin, but the
reg still works all the time. As for the Odin I haven't had it under the
ice but the last cold water trail, 40* F in river with10 knot current,
working it extremely hard, performed as it should.

This past spring a buddy and I were diving the St. Mary's river 2 or 3 times
a week. It was fun to watch the submerged ice coming out of the generating
station. The idea caught on and we would bring divers for their 2 minute
dive that end with the free flow. I don't remember any of the models but
the dacors wouldn't make it to the water and the sherwoods would last long
enough to get you wet. The funny thing is that these divers with the poor
equipment still use it. I use rule # 1 all the time now, but unfortunately
the one local dive shops still actively promote dacor & Sherwood. This does
limit the amount of dive buddies in the area. These dives, would by this
listserv, would be considered rec. dives

Technically speaking divers up hear use mostly Odins(75%) or Scuba Pro. I
see the odd cyclone and one guy uses Mares. I have not seen a Poseidon
fail. On the other hand I have seen the SP free flow, not all the time but
often enough to remember. The SP free flows have all been in the summer and
start at depth. They usually start to fail at 150' to 180' on the way down.
This is real scary because when you think about it, that reg was at 80*F 2
minutes ago.

Just my $0.02 on cold water regs, since this is almost all the diving that I
do.
