First, if there are any "senior" members of the UK cave diving community on the list, they don't post. I have only heard the same rumors as everyone else. However: 1. UK cave diving is as heterogeneous as US cave diving - perhaps more so since the CDG seems to actively encourage anarchy. Also, we have ones with brow ridges, calloused knuckles and family trees that don't fork just like anywhere else. 2. UK cave diving opinions on "deep air" are likely to be a little suspect simply because, with a few exceptions, there ain't no "deep". 3. Having said that, those divers doing substantial exploration who are diving deep in the UK and abroad (e.g. Cordingley, Carter and co.), are moving away from deep air. 4. The tricky part - I'd like to know (of course:-) who actually signed this letter - however, one of the *rumoured* signatories (and I *haven't* seen the letter and don't know for sure if this person *did* sign it), is someone I have a fair amount of time for, and (a) don't think would become involved if he knew the full story, and (b) for reasons too long and boring to go into almost certainly *doesn't* know the full story. So it is just *possible* that not everyone really knew the implications of what they were signing.
