The poorly thought out reasons for use are:>>> The reason that one can conclude why this hybrid 80/20 oxygen enriched air mix came about, clearly cannot be because it has been proven to be more effective or as some poorly use the word "safer" than 100% oxygen is simply because it can be made without an oxygen booster pump. If one wants a deco cylinder with 100% oxygen in it they need a booster pump (Haskel) that is prepared for oxygen service to bring the final pressure of the transfer from the storage cylinder up to 3000 psi in the scuba cylinder. If using an 80 cuft alum tank and you do not have a booster you are SOL --- since USP grade oxygen usually only gets delivered in cylinders at 22-2400 psi and many only at 2015. With a little cascading from two or three cylinders one could get about 2200 psi of oxygen in a tank. This leaves is about 800 psi short of a ful fill -- top the sucker off with hyrocarbon free air and low and behold you have 80/20 deco gas.
