Pete, a couple of things to add to your discussion here: nitrogen causes damage when not in the presence of helium beyond ppn2's in the 130 equivalent range, and this makes decompression very difficult, and the real problem with narcosis is that it is a judgement effector, and it is not easy to spot by the person who has it.
