The discussion of rebreathers prompted me to think about how much I would pay to rent one. My first thought, as I was writing a $113 check for fills for one mix dive this weekend, was that I would pay at least this much, especially if I got more than 25-30 min bottom time. Then I realized that I would probably never rent one for a big dive, no matter how cheap. Think about it - would you do a 200+ fsw dive with rental gear? Not only do you not know how well it has been maintained, you also can't customize it, or dive with it enough to know where everything is and how it works. With my current set, I dive the same configuration every dive (plus or minus a stage bottle), be it air, nitrox, or mix. I can find stuff by touch, and know where all the controls are in an emergency. I doubt this would ever be true if I only used a rebreather for the mix dives, which are far outnumbered (for me at least) by my air dives. John
