Jan, I'm sure I won't be the first to suggest this, but I dive the Poseidons in very cold water and have had one freeze up that happened BETWEEN dives in the colder-than-freezing air. Never in the water. However, that one time was without the environmental caps. Poseidon sells a rubber cap that goes over the end of the first stage with the openings that expose the diaphram to ambient water. Put isopropyl alcohol in the cap and then there is no part of the regulator innards exposed to water. It works very well. I've NEVER had a freeze up with the caps in place (and I sometimes dive in sub-freezing fresh water - yes, it happens in rivers). I think they sell for about $15 and are easy to install yourself.
