Subject: Re: regulators
I have a farily new Poseidon and I am expreiencing the following problem.
We dive regularly in quarries. As a matter of fact our club sort of has a
quarie nearly to call our own.
The water in that area is very rich in Chalk (a lot of Ca++ ions in it).
I purchased the Poseidon regulator 7 month ago so it was not due for
service yet
(if you send it to a shop my experience is the only thing they do is
charge you anyway).

During last winter cold (as sometimes there was ice on the quarry) the
regulator froze twice on me (once when we were under the ice).
Being experienced myself and having experienced buddies with me this was
not a issue.

After a month (and some diving in the Red Sea without problems) when the
water was not so cold any more (roughly 4 degrees Celcius at the surface)
I decided to dive again with the Poseidon.
The devastating result was that the darn thing froze again. I decided to
have a look at it myself.

Inside the regulator I noticed a rather thick layer of Calcium had
build-up inside the first stage.
After removing the Ca with a tooth-pick the thing stopped freezing on me.

Does anybody have any similar experience with another Poseidon ?
Does anybody have any similar experience with another regulator ?

Who knows how to avoid this (I have put vaseline inside now)?
Who knows how to avoid water from coming (leaking) in the second stage ?

Any suggestions????????

Regards
