Hi Jeff. I'm experimenting with this, and I know others have done it. I will forward to you a note that George sent to the list a few weeks ago in response to a similar question from me. I bought a SeaTec singles backplate from Lloyd Bailey's for $30 or $35, and re-rigged it much like a Hogarthian backplate. The main difference is forced by the backplate, which is that the shoulder straps come out in the upper middle of the backplate instead over toward the sides. Also, there's no crotch strap. I have one of the Dive Rite dual-pocket things that I can put on the left side of the waist strap if I want to bring a slate or something along *and* I'm not wearing a wetsuit with a zipper in front (otherwise I just tuck them in the suit). My O/W reg is getting its yearly checkup at the moment, but when I get it back I'll put a 5' hose on the primary 2nd stage, and a neck strap on the secondary 2nd stage. I have a single D-ring on the left hip, where I will clip off my "console", and a reel or light if I'm bringing one. I'll probably put one on a shoulder strap for a backup light as well. My O/W console is currently a PADI-style behemoth, but the right answer is to move all but the pressure gauge up to the wrist. Actually, since I have depth on my wrist via a computer, all I really need is a compass, so I may just get the boy-scout flat kind and attach it to a slate. Wings -- I'm not sure yet. I will try the same Dive Rite Original Wings as my doubles, and will also try weighting myself carefully and going without. If the regular Wings don't work, I may buy a smaller set of Wings (DR's BC Jr. or maybe something from Zeagle?) but that would have to take a back seat to other purchases, unfortunately. So, that's the plan. If it works out well I'll stick some pictures and a description up on the web site. I won't get a chance to play with this in open water until February or March, unfortunately. Regarding the other question: I suspect that for any dive "serious enough" to warrant more than one tank of gas I would rather use my real rig. However, in the absence of that, wouldn't clipping on a stage bottle be less complicated than the independants? Same goes for the pony. - Todd > OK, stupid question time. I know I want a backplate next time around (try hanging a 30cf pony > off of a single 80 bound to a soft-back BC... nah, you guys would never do > that, and I won't much longer, but at least I'm admitting it <grin>). > > On the OMS singles band track, Carl Heinzl mentioned (some time ago) that there > were also "Cam bands" that allowed two independents (no, let's not start that > flamefest over, I'm talking about diving on vacation) on a backplate. Is that > legitimate as well? Or is that also in the "worst rig" category? > > Jeff "still open-minded on this" Kell <jeff-kell@ut*.ed*> -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
