Let me get this going in the right direction, you have mild asthma, correct.
What is your lung function, 90% 80% 70% ect. To be told that you have mild
asthma, you must have gone through some type of PFT (Pulmonary Functions Test).

As far as irritation inhalants, I will have to say that you are correct in
the statement that there should not be many in the dive mixtures no matter
what ever they are. But if you live here in Fl, you have to deal with
molds, pollen, dust particales, ect.....

I can only say one thing, you are lucky by allmeans, if it is true that you
have true asthma. I think ( and this is only a thought, and I do not know
your medical history), that you have more of a reoccuring bronchitis, more
over a true asthma. I have yet to see a asthmatic come in through an ER
wheezeing just because they got a cold, but I have see alot of PPL (people)
come in the ER sounding like an asthmatic, only to find out via Chest X-ray
that they had a pnumonia, or bronchitis.

Bronchitis= an acute (everyonce and awhile) or chronic inflamation (about
every month) of the mucous membranes of the tracheobronchial tree, which
will cause the same symptoms as asthma.

I still will say "Don't Do IT!!" In the UK they can do what ever they want
with you the patient, but here in the states there are too many things that
a person is liable for. I would never tell this person to dive knowing that
he had asthma.. If I did that, I just might as well hold a gun to this guys
head. If he continues to dive, one day it will hit him, and he will be just
another diver that died because of poor judgement. Also there is no such
thing as an Asthmatic that is fit for diving!!!

You can keep having your doctors allow these PT to dive, but they will not
be passed here in the US, stamped as free to dive.....

BTW, A mandatory Chest X-ray is not the way to tell if a person has asthma
or not. PFT (chalange type), ABG (artiral blood gas), Sputum samples, and
certain blood work, just to name a few test.
