Understand that the chipping may be so small as to be unvisible;i saw
at least 1 tank where corrosion had started under the liner,bubbling
it away from the inner surface of the cylinder,yet there were no
macroscopic breaks in the liner.

 the best bet

Good advice here;if it's lined,it's probably a steel '72,and they are
dirt cheap.
