Putting a strobe on the line is normal practice for me. Our viz is so poor and the wrecks large enough that very often we find it difficult to locate the shot/anchor line even when it is on the wreck. We also use them at hatches and bulkheads when looking round the wreck. [ And now Gordon or Stuart is going to remind me that I didn't do this when they were visiting - and look what happened then :-) ] > The best choice, obviously, is to run that reel from the anchor line > to the wreck, and then put your stobe on the reel where it is fastened > onto the wreck. Would the reel line hold if the anchor started to drag? This would probably be better used with a shot line and SMB, with someone on the boat standing off a little. If you're diving off something small, like a RHIB, you can just take the anchor to the wreck. If you can't see the wreck then one stays on the anchor line and the other does a sweep search on a reel. When you hit the wreck (often literally :-)) you just tie of the reel and follow it back to the anchor. Then bring the anchor to the wreck. This can use up about 10mins or so of bottom time and a bit of air, but once you're on the bottom at anything over 100 feet you don't want to abort the dive unless you really have to.
