If you come to the UK you may change your mind on that. It is a standing joke here that you know you've found the wreck when you bump into it. As several members of this list can attest my ability to judge distances when the viz gets over 10 feet is extremely suspect :-) It is a fact of diving here that there will be days when you can't see your gauges further than 2" in front of your mask. Also, over here the pros sometimes turn to the amateurs when the viz gets low. A member of my club was one of a number of rec divers asked to help recover a child's body from a zero viz river because the police divers said that conditions were too bad for them to carry out the search.
