Actually, I think the better reason to pressurize the deco reg then turn it off is to guard against that inevitable day when Murphy makes you do something dumb - like stuffing the wrong regulator in your mouth...if you can't suck in any deco mix on the bottom, you can't OD on O2. You're too great a superdiver for this ever to happen to you? Yeah, right!
