Steve - Some people turn the reg off after testing it on the surface, then turn it on again periodically as they descend to keep water from reaching the 1st stage. Others turn it on and leave it on. The reason to not leave it on is that some folks think they might have an unnoticed freeflow on the deco reg. Personally, I figure if you don't notice that your deco reg is freeflowing you probably aren't in a position to care. I've never seen anyone mount the bottle upside down like that, but I can see why you'd do it. Regards, Scott.
