Force 4 is not a gale. 8 is a gale. 4 is breezy.

Sea state 4 can be a pain (BSAC recommended maximum diving
conditions) and can occur in the absence of wind, or in a force 7! Sea
states 5 and 6 are going beyond marginal and getting silly.

Since PH had an orange safety thing (love sausage) why not
reinforce the bottom of it, add 10m-12m 3mm kernmantle line and a two
pound weight and save all this CO2 crap? Granted if your stops start at
45m you want a reel, but most of us will spend a lifetime diving and
never pull stops below 15m; it sounds like clutter.

Another option is a 5-6' fold out flag which tucks away v.neatly
(some stuff it, mine lives under my knife strap) and can save a life if
the sea conditions are/have become marginal.

As far as inflation goes; you put in 5l at 10m (one quick
squirt) and you've filled pretty much anything at the surface.
