Pete, those who die get autopsied, those who get "paradoxical gas embolism" and live do not, but of those who live, and get tested, the incidence is of PFO is overwhelming. The ones who die usually just blew off everything, while the paradoxicals did nothing wrong, hence the moniker. Most people are self-limiting because they are natural weenies. The PFO gig is three fold: do a dive that generates bubbles, have the flap open, have bubbles go through.
