Carl, Many thanks for your info. I am back from Germany and England (Cornwall). The latter has some of the most interesting places to dive that I've seen in years. Many wrecks, remarkable reefs and walls. A must-go-back-and- dive sorta place. I met a great chef and diver Kevin Viner who owns Pennypots Restaurant Blackwater Truro, Cornwall TR4 8EY ENGLAND Tel: 44 (0)1209 820347 Some of the best food I have had in years (I live in LA, not exactly the gastronomic desert it was 20 years ago). Kevin is moving his restaurant to Maenporth Beach in Cornwall, sometime this summer, which also happens to be the home of the Falmouth Underwater Centre Maenporth Beach Falmouth, Cornwall TR11 5HN ENGLAND Tel: 44 (0)1326 250852 Now about the lights. You are right - the weight difference doesn't seem to be an issue, though bouyancy (certainly when diving in warm water) does make a big difference. Just finding 40lbs of lead in some places is difficult (i.e., Papua New Guinea). The Comet seems to be the way to go. I presume that's a 24v system and your 124 is a typo? A coupla questions: What bulb size (100w, 150w) does that 30' of true color apply to? and what is the temp of the bulb? (i.e., true color ~3500K?) Are there hot spots if you use two lights and what's the field of cover with one or two lights? Please remind me of the burn times with 100w and 150w bulbs for the Comet. Many folks (...some folks, ....somebody once) say to me that for your standard reef stuff in tropical waters 10 - 15' true color is plenty and that more light washes out the "reality" - whatever that is. This is the excuse that Light & Motion give for their puny 30w x2 system powered by Nakita NiCads. By the way their system costs $900 - not far off the price of two Comets, but I digress. Capt Dan of some Florida city with an unpronounceable abbreviation (Nwptrichey, Fl), who is prepared to sell me his used DiveRite system (cheap) says that he gave it up and went to the StingRay (L&M) system because the 300w - 400w Diverite was too bright. I guess I need some assurance from you BigBoys that (a) I will actually be able to carry the system to the water (b) I will not be mistaken for a nuclear explosion on switching the system on and scare half the Red Sea out into the Indian Ocean. Comments would be greatly appreciated and yes I really do want to to buy this thing soon so that I can practice before I go to the Red Sea in August.
