I use the OMS steel backplate since I have a cheapo overly buoyant
neoprene drysuit, grumble. . . , anyway I didn't HAVE to drill holes
because the steel backplate is set up with holes spaced conveniently all
around the perimeter - supposed to be used for that cording that
supposedly keeps down excess drag on the OMS *bunge* wings - you know the
dumb ones with the cording that, heh, keeps them from actually inflating
readily!! Anchoring the lite to the backplate keeps it very stable - You
can attach the lite with samll quicklinks or small 'biners. I saw
Rennaker using the non-locing 'biners and figure he does so in case he
HAS to get the lite completely off - like to ditch it in some emergency
where he is *hung up*. Anyway, topside it sure lessened the drag on my
belt - was pulling so much before I tried securing it to the backplate
that it was really *getting me down*! VBG
