Randy Bohrer pointed out the danger of divers attempting to prepare their own gear for <oxygen service>. Jason Richards pointed out that some dive shops also seem to lack a professional approach to gear servicing. I have seen both of these problems. Now with PADI popularising EAN we are going to see it being used far more widely than ever. The more of anything you do in diving the greater the chance of an accident. So far we have managed to get away in most countries without major govenment interference as we have worked with gasses other than air. However, as always, if there are a rash of accidents the govements clamp down, and usually in an over restrictive or mis-directed way. I really believe this is quite likely as everybody jumps on the nitrox bandwagon and the number of accidents related to gas blending increase. We need to have more clearly defined industry standards regarding equipment servicing and gas blending, or someone else will do it for us.
