have been watching- finally have to join in while i appreciate the point regarding dive shops effectively preventing many divers from effecting good equipment maintenance and repair on their own gear there is, as ever, another side to this coin. unfortunately for every concientious diver who can understand how a regulator works and is capable of working on his own gear with the right training there are dozens who feel they should be allowed to service their own regulators because they completed a PADI equipment specialist course. i've had divers wanting to buy regulator service kits who believed that the ip from a sherwood magnum 1st stage should be "somewhere around 3000psi and yes i can gauge that using my regulator's spg" yes also there are dive stores and dive store staff who have no right servicing equipment, inspecting tanks or O2 prepping tanks and regs but don't forget that there are also a lot of stores around that do know what they're doing there are two sides to every story there is aplace in the sport and the dive industry for the diver who will learn how to safely maintain his own gear but we need to identify those who cannot safely and protect them from themselves-right now that prevention makes life tough for a lot of people who are responsible and competent- who said the world was perfect? by the way how do i subscribe to techdiver list or did i just? happy new year tony phillips
