This type of report amazes me.. I would have thought the diver who lost his mask would have at least had the skill to find his own octopus for his personal use in this situation. In a message dated 97-01-16 16:03:49 EST, you write: > 2nd stage octo stuffed into bc pocket that was securely velcro'd/zippered > shut. This configuration was reportedly sighted on a local diver who's > buddy > died on the same dive in an out-of-air emergency. Having seen this before..MANY times, and even guilty of it as a novice, eight years ago.. I'm curious what different people feel is the best place for the octo, and why. I currently have mine clipped in the chest area in plain view with a clip that connects to the hose at the body of the reg. I like this location because its easy for me to make use of it in the event of loosing/failing/sharing my primary. > According to reports the out-of-air diver, when unable to retrieve the octo, > > tore away the person's primary reg knocking their mask off in the process. > The buddy with no mask or regulator apparently panicked and bolted for the > surface (from approx 60') leaving the out-of-air diver behind to drown. -KL Its a wonder that there weren't two dead divers.
