How is it that an intersting and possibly productive discussion on the
validity,(or lack there of), of Jersey Reels turns into a shouting match
about George Irvine III? Where's the connection? The last I knew, he wasn't
even a subscriber to this list. Obviously, if his teachings are able to
reach out to a list he's not participating in and on subjects not within his
normal area of interest, his methods of presentation are working! You may
not agree with the system he promotes but you're obviously very aware of
it!!!!
As several realized, my last post was about the importance of keeping
an open mind and being willing to learn from others. Choosing to disregard
George's techniques, or anyone else's, based solely on their method of
presentation is not being particularly open minded. Take what you will from
the suggestions he offers. Reject what you find unacceptable. But please
don't resort to personal attacks, mudslinging, etc. and then complain about
him using those techniques! If you object to his communication techniques
for pitty sakes don't emmulate them!!!!!
If you have a problem with the system (hogarthian ala WKPP) then by
all means point it out and offer a better method. But please do so with
logic, statistical data, whatever, not with retoric. Show me that the
benefits of stuffing my long hose outweighs the benefits of wrapping and
breathing it and I'll be the first in line to buy surgical tubing to make the
bungees. Tell me it must be bad because some of the method's proponents have
a nasty attitude and I'll simply ignore your commentary.
I'm open to hearing anyone's techniques. If you've got a better way
of doing something that will decrease my risk exposure, I'm all ears. On the
other hand, if all you folks want to do is clash over personality defects,
bash egos and brag about your personal excellence, my eyes, ears and mind are
closed.
Now, can we get back to wreck diving?
