chris your argument of saying that Arkies have changed is flawed- the geological Archeological report i was referring to occurred in the he last 4 years & was a documentary on Discovery Channel earlier this past year. the Arkies were from the US & the geologists were from England. the us guys just opened the vaults & the studies showed that the change in temperature & humidity will destroy the painting on the walls & damage the structure itself. your argument about they have changed & Salvors have not is false also. one they obviously have not. & the Salvors have tried to include Arkies in most of the important finds recently only to be stopped in many cases by the Arkies who to this day refuse to recognize artifacts recovered by anyone other than a Arkie. try speaking to any of the reputable museums & see what they say. the argument that all our records will be destroyed & so on is not quite the same today as it was 5000 yrs ago or 10 yrs ago for that matter. there was never any pictures of anything back then-now we have film & video & computerized renditions of everything done on the planet. there was maybe (i'll be liberal here) 1000 hand written books back 5000 yrs ago with no methods of preserving them! now how many books, videos, films,CD's of the encyclopedia (alone) are there? are you in a bubble or what? if shit has any important at all we can now take steps to preserve them for the eternal future. you know if we wanted to we could document everything put it into about 1000 supped up CD'.s put them into a box & place them in Obelisk on the Moon & every planet in our solar system as well as burying it into a dozen time capsules around the word. WHAT A CONCEPT - PRESERVING THE PAST FOR THE FUTURE. you know we will probably be idiots & destroy the entire civilization & have to start over again right. yes you are right the Salvors motives are PURE they are ultimately interested in the financial gains that they can achieve from there efforts ( gee is that capitalism). i thought that was the idea in this country(as well as others). the real difference is that the Arkies from the beginning have hidden behind the vail of education ,etc. I must admit because of the power & the money behind them they have been quite effective at there job. if you haven't been able to see the $'s that are available & that have been awarded in this field then try opening your eyes. look into the Hurst Estates - the Penny"s & the English & French Estates. Who has all of those unusual artifacts from all over Egypt, South America Etc,Etc,Etc. Don't get me wrong if there is a significance to a find then i think it can be documented & if there is something to be learned or gained from the preservation of the item then by all means lets do it right. i just draw the line hat the absurdity of being treated like an idiot about some of the issues. the best examples of which occurred in Florida. the state wanted to confiscate (& did) many of the treasures from the wrecks discovered & salvaged by the Salvors. then they lost a few of the cases . so the states aligned themselves with the Arkies to justify there acts& give them credibility. that was when they got the Shipwreck legislation through (after failing 9 times). now the Arkies have used the politicaly correct approach. you know it it's the same one you use. "don't touch it leave it for everyone to see". you know when we recovered the bell from the Bianca "C" it had been there in the open for about 25 years. no one knew it was there or what it was or where it was, & the longer it stayed there the less chance there would have been for anyone to ever see it let alone APPRECIATE IT IN THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. the dishes & artifacts recovered from the Andrea Doria are things that no diver (other than maybe 500) would ever get an opportunity to see if they could get to where they were. these artifacts have now been seen in tv shows, magazines, videos, TV & books by millions of people. None of this was done by Arkies it was done by us the looters the despoilers of the wrecks. on the other hand until the last yr & ahalf the artifacts from the USS MONITOR have rotted & most have probably been lost due to the attitude that the Arkies have put forth. now they are finally letting the diver bring up the tings to be displayed. they have rules & guess what for the most part it's working. just one more point- do you really think it makes sense to document where you find objects on a wreck that was either blown up or trashed in a hurricane. Oh yes don't forget the storms that have ravaged these wrecks over the time that they have been laying dormant on the bottom? for example (you have Gentiles video) you know that lantern that's in it! what relevance to anything do you think that it's precise location is to anything about this wreck? be careful this may be a trick question. wrecks are fluid tings in a fluid environment. some have them have spilled there contents out & than they & the contents has been churned up over & over again by natural causes. there are some wrecks (the one in Sweden) or wrecks in the lakes that have been preserved, by some fluke of nature, that deserve to be handled a carefully as if they were glass. but for the vast majority of the sunken ships out there please don't insult our intelligence with these bogus arguments. oh yes one more point- i am sick of hearing the Arkies yelling about the fact that we are GRAVE ROBBERS- man thats like a politicion lobbying for honesty. please look at the history who the hell is opening all of those tombs & graves??
