Rob, It is personal preference, but I'd like to remain somewhat streamlined. Especially if I'm doing a penetration that is tight and there are a lot of danglies around. What you have described here sounds like it has the potential for snagging. Why not clip the lift bag(s) off behind you on a D-ring. On the crotch strap near the back plate is a natural place for it. A small tool bag is convenient for the chisels, hammer, vice-grips and basic tools. Generally on a wreck, I'm either working on a project, I'm shopping for one, or just looking around. I don't bring the hardware store with me. Even when I'm working on a project, I only bring what I think will be essential after having surveyed it on a previous dive. If you can reach your tank valves (and I hope you can), you should be able to place a pry bar where you can reach it without your buddy's assistance. If not, you need to work on this one.
