Probably not a freaky as you might think.  I suspect that ALL decompressions 
are associated with SOME intravascular bubble formation.  Certainly there is 
good evidence for detectable bubbles forming after ascent from depths as 
shallow as 8m [Ikeda T, Okamoto Y, Hashimoto A (1993) Bubble formation and 
decompression sickness on direct ascent from shallow air saturation diving.  
Aviation Space & Environmental Medicine 64:121-12 found that all subjects in 
an 8-m dive presented various amounts of bubbles and that the minimum depth 
for detectable bubble formation was assessed at around 6 m.]
