The 'Spare-Air' is a spare air container with an integrated regulator.
It looks like a ( very small) pony bottle with a second stage where the
valve should be.
You can refil the device from a standard scuba tank, using a connector.
The connector screws onto something that is a one way valve most of the time.
The other end is a regular A-clamp.
A rudimentary pressure gauge ( full or empty) is included also.
The capacity is enough to bring you safely to the surface from most non-deco
dives. If it works !
I've used one on maybe a dozen dives and have had several problems, including
complete loss of air .
Once the one-way filling valve failed, releasing all air. Another time,
the inverse happend, and I wass unable to fill the thing. A third time, the
o-ring between tank and regulator tried to escape and almost succeeded.
In general the thing leaks air at a slow rate all the time. If you fill it and
leave it for a few days, a fair amount of pressure is lost.
IF it would work however it might be a rather handy thing for the PADI kind
of recreational diving. It's self contained, small and can easily be attached to
a
jacket or stored in a pocket.
