Provided that you are using a kit that has absolutely no leaks from the 
high pressure side to ambient.  You seated your first stage against the 
O-Ring perfectly, and, of course, you aren't using a Sherwood reg which 
has that built-in HP leak.  And the reg doesn't purge as you jump into 
the water, which I'd suspect that it almost certainly will if you do a 
typical boat entry as opposed to walking in to calm water from the shore..

Me?  I use a Sherwood, and I leave the valve turned on.
