In other statements in the "editorial" he mentions other gas
mixtures and advanced breathing systems that will further our
ability to explore deeper and longer. He also states that
Oceanic will be releasing "In the new future an advnced breathing system
allowing 300 foot excursions!"
Anybody hear about this new breathing system. Sounds like a
recreational rebreather. Anybody that was at the Tek conference
hear anything about this?
I wasn't at Tek, but my understanding from discussions with Rob Palmer is
that Carmellan Research in the UK are developing two rebreathers, one
semi-closed and one closed circuit.
The semi-closed is planned to be marketed by Carmellan (and may be called
the Prism from memory). It will have nitrox and mixed gas capability in
its final incarnation.
The closed circuit version is going to be licenced to Oceanic, and will
also have nitrox and mixed gas capability.
I haven't spoken with Rob since November, but that was the case then.
