This "reverse thermal problem" question is really interesting. (I'd love 
to see/hear more about it. And some info about various hot spring 
locations would be great.

We have a couple of strange places in Florida -- not springs with flow, 
but sinks with warmer than normal water (normal=68-72deg.F)and anaerobic 
environments that have preserved paleo remains.They are very big, deep 
holes -- must have deep sources, and are really weird to be located in FL.
Any poop on any of this would be fun to learn about.
