Hi...a number of people have commented about the Aladin Nitrox computer...I dove with one this past weekend and would like to make some comments. These will be brief, if you want more details, E-mail me and I will answer your questions more fully. First, this is a very well designed machine. It is easy to read and feels comfortable. The displays on current depth, max depth, CNS clock, time before deco, gas remaining/time at present consumption are all clearly readable...no temperature readout on the demo model I was supplied. Second, it was easy to program before the dive (only bottom mix though, which seems odd to me), and is easy to run dive profiles on for planning. But...is it ever conservative....I ran some profiles and compared them with a couple of computer/based table generators and a copy of the straight Buhlmann algoritms (on which the Aladin is based) and as soon as you start to get into moderate deco, the padding becomes extreme...That's to say, very, very safe...And seems to be aimed at the recreational dive market...slight decos, multi-level, keep it simple stuff. If you have the money to spare, it's a great conversation piece and for the cost of a new set of doubles and a regular digital bottom timer and depth gauge it's yours...If you want something that's gonna get you out of the water faster, forget it. Buy Decom or something similar and use it.... Thanks for your time....
