Haven't had to use a knife U/W yet, luck maybe? >I'm not sure what you have in your kit, but my wrecking >(non-penetration)/deep kit contains the following: Thanks for the rundown! Yeah, it sure sounds like alot when you list it. It did occur to me (after I posted, of course) that it would have been useful to say what I do use: Dacor Extreme reg, with Enduro octopus Dacor Enduro analog console (depth & SPG) w/compass Sea Quest Predator BC w/"old" style airway & power inflator ORCA Marathon computer Casio 200m analog watch Wenoka dive knife, worn on inside of right calf UK1200 light OZTEX "DiveSkins" Polartec dive skin Performance 6mm john/jacket/boots/hood Scubapro non-purge mask & snorkel Force Fins, standard edition Small slate The combination of Polartec and 6mm suit is sufficient for me down to about 50F, at least in the quarry. The water temperature at depth during our Atlantic dives was 70F, very comfortable for us both. About carrying tables: I do consult the tables to plan our dives. We're just getting to the point where it's possible to get close to actual air consumption in the planning stage, and it's gratifying when the dive does come close to plan in that regard. But we don't do decompression, so I don't see the need to carry a table. If either of our computers dies during a dive, we will ascend to 15 feet and stay for at least 3 minutes or until our air supply is consumed, depending upon depth and amount of work done during the dive. Is there anything wrong with my logic in this? >While you're going deeper, don't forget to evaluate not only your own >state of mind, ability, etc., but also your buddy's on a constant basis - >they may narc without ever knowing it. Any suggestions for a way to check for this? Something simple that we could incorporate as a standard element of our dive plan would be nice. Does one's susceptibility to narcosis decrease with practice, or do you just learn to recognize and handle it? =Art=
