Who ever SF is, this person who prefers to hide his name behind some
initials, I don't have any reason to believe you have any clue about
technical diving yourself.
If George is hard on people who have stupid ideas, you can go and comfort
them if you desire. But I think Georges issue (I'm sure he'll correct me if
I'm wrong) is that divers with no abilities and no knowledge can talk on a
list like this, and convince each other they know what they are doing. The
next step is where they kill themselves or someone else who has to try and
save them, because WE allowed them to believe they knew what they were doing.
Many of these people could be considered the "big fish in the little pond"
where they dive....maybe the guy who has been down to 165 feet ten times,
with a nice fancy computer to save his butt from his lack of real
knowledge....in his local area, he may be the "Hot Shit" diver/instructor
that all the new open water divers hold in awe. And he is a bomb, waiting to
explode with dangerous misinformation.
One of the functions George performs on this list is to "DEFUSE" these
bombs. Someone has to say---"That idea is so STUPID you could kill someone
with it". The biggest problem is, there have been so many explosively bad
ideas voiced over the last year, that George has lost some of his
"compassion" for stupid divers/ideas, and ultimately, someone like yourself
gets his nose out of joint.
Forget that you'd be hard pressed to survive the exposure George might do
for his "second" dive of the day. Forget that he has done more dives over
300 feet, farther into cave systems than all the people you know put
together. Forget that he is a friend of Dr. Bill Hamilton, and has special
tables developed for his own applications, because he is better than the
diving "masses". And after you have forgotten all that, maybe you should
forget to complain next time someone gets flamed for bragging about an idea
that could kill people.
And while you are at it, forget about sounding intelligent because you made
no typos or gramatical mistakes....this is not rec.english.lit
